Down the Tracks – The Music That Influenced Led Zeppelin DVD

Review by Gary Hill

This series is an interesting one. It delves into the music that more popular artists emulated. Fans of Led Zeppelin will find that there isn’t a lot on their favorite band to be found here. At least in terms of actual Led Zeppelin stuff. Instead they will find something that might be even more valuable. This gives an in-depth look at the musicians Led Zeppelin turned to for their inspiration. This sort of an exploration gives you a more personal understanding of the group’s music. Once you understand where a certain sound originated you can better grasp and appreciate that sound. Such is the true power of this entire series. Of course, a lot of this video centers around Robert Johnson. That’s because Johnson was probably the biggest single influence on Zeppelin.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2008  Volume 6 at lulu.com/strangesound.
