The Richard Thompson Band

Live at Celtic Connections BluRay

Review by Gary Hill

So, I’ll be the first to admit it, I had not really heard Richard Thompson before this. Sure, I was familiar with Fairport Convention, the band in which he rose to the spotlight. I hadn’t really heard Thompson before, though. Well, I put this set in the progressive rock heading because of that Fairport Convention link. His music here seems to run the gamut from rock to folk and even Celtic and country. Of course, Fairport convention had all those sounds in their mix, too. Whatever you call it, though, this is a killer show and the video and audio are just plain great. I recommend this one to all fans of Fairport Convention and Thompson. I’d also say it’s a great introduction to the man and his music.
