Joe Satriani
Live In Paris: I Just Wanna Rock DVD
Review by Larry Toering
While in waiting for the current live DVD release of Joe Satriani, this is a look back on one of two others I've been enjoying over the years. While it isn't a bad concert, there are some less than desirable things to consider about it, when comparing it to more recent releases. Many effects seem to be out of order but don't totally ruin the performance. Having said that it's a good showing whether watching or just listening to it. A lot of the song choices are of the top of the pack at that point in Satriani’s career. They all do the business, but some of the aforementioned visual effects make for just an okay rendering of them. Still, it doesn’t take away from the audio and that is the most important thing, for me. So, all in all this is not his best but not his worst release to date. I recommend it slightly below the Live in San Francisco DVD, but both have me anticipating the current release. To sum this DVD up, it doesn't get much better than Satriani, no matter how you slice it.
