Europe

Live at Sweden Rock DVD

Review by Gary Hill

First off, I have to admit that I was one American who had probably never heard anything from Europe other than “Final Countdown.” I never really liked that song too much, so I had reservations about this DVD. Well, Europe clearly are much more than “the ‘Final Countdown’ band.” These guys rock! In fact, I’d consider these guys metal – and not 1980s hair metal, but more real steel. The sound and video are both great. Of course, this was filmed in 2013, so you’d expect that. There are guest appearances by Scott Gorham and Michael Schenker, bringing another layer of interest to this. As great as the main selection is, and really isn’t that what people buy it for, there are some cool bonus features, too. Those include an interview and behind the scenes footage. I can tell you that this is a great set to give an introduction to a more in-depth appreciation of the band Europe. It’s also highly recommended for hardcore fans. I know I’ll be looking into this band a lot more now.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2013  Volume 6 at lulu.com/strangesound.
