Clockwork Orange County DVD

Review by Gary Hill

It should be noted right from the start that, although this film is about a punk rock scene, it’s less about the music and more about the scene and the club where it flourished. There are some bits of live footage, though. The majority of this film is all about interviews with the people who were there. It’s actually an amazing music scene, though with acts like Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, TSOL and more playing a part. Apparently slam dancing actually started at the Cuckoo’s Nest, the club in question. This is a fascinating documentary. It’s sure to bring up a lot of memories for those who were there and impart a lot of information for those of us who weren’t. If you’ve ever liked punk rock (or even if you just have an interest in the lifecycle of scenes), this is recommended.
