Deep Purple

with Orchestra - Live in Verona DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I know there are those who disagree with me, but I wouldn’t necessarily consider Deep Purple to be a progressive rock band. Nor would I call them a heavy metal band. They do linger near the borders of both of those sounds, though. This show, however, with orchestra, edges just a little over the edge into progressive rock territory. The orchestra doesn’t make as big a difference as it could, though. They serve to augment the performances. The performances themselves are on fire and the video and audio are both top notch. Overall, I’d consider this quite a good release.
