Inside Metal DVD

Review by Greg Olma

This DVD reminds me of the good old do-it-yourself days.  It is slightly better in production than those old video fanzines, but that is really what makes this DVD work.  They use old pictures and music along with some new interviews to tell the story of the early days of the L.A. metal scene.  The groups at the heart of the scene are all represented here like Dokken, Ratt and Quiet Riot but there are other less known bands like Steeler that are given some screen time.  The stories are not only informative but they are given by the people who were there and started it.  If you are looking for something that is more produced like The Decline of Western Civilization: Part II or Metal - A Headbanger's Journey, you won’t find that on this DVD, but if you want to get a taste of what the old video fanzines were like, then this is a great start.  I recommend Inside Metal to those who care less about the production values but who are more interested in the story.
