Mick Jagger

The Ultimate Performer

Review by Gary Hill

I have to admit to being a big Rolling Stones fan, and, of course, a big Jagger fan. So, I was interested in checking out this video biography. I didn't anticipate it bring as captivating as it was, though. I was thoroughly engrossed by it from start to finish, and the time went by quickly.

This video features interviews with numerous people (prog fans will find the snippets of Ian Anderson a cool touch), including their first manager, former Stone Mick Taylor, Paul Kantner, BB King, Bob Geldof and more. One might expect a pure fluff piece, painting a positive only picture. That's not true. There are some criticisms brought up here and there. I'm not sure I'd call it balanced, but this is not an pure promotional video.

It's hard to separate Mick Jagger's history from that of The Rolling Stones. Brian Jones may have founded the band, but as time has gone by it really has become all about Jagger and Keith Richards. So, a lot of this focuses on the Stones, but there is talk about his film appearances (along with some footage), solo works and more.

All in all, this story is told with these interviews, narration, live footage, video clips and more. It's a fascinating story, and a captivating one. One thing I found really interesting is the fact that when this was filmed (2001) the question was already being raised of "how long can the Stones keep doing this?{"  Yet they keep right on going to this day. .
