Oscar Vega

Back (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

This is the new single from Oscar Vega. It is quite electronic in nature.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2016  Volume 3 at lulu.com/strangesound.

The electronic tones that open this make it feel like some kind electronic prog thing. That sound doesn’t remain as the guiding principle, though. Instead it shifts toward a cool soulful vibe. The vocals really make this piece work. That’s a good thing because there isn’t all that much musical variety here. I will say, though, that the vocals lean toward the over-produced end of the spectrum. Still, overall, this is a cool soulful groove with a modern edge.

(Editor's Note - Music Street Journal is set up for the allocation of albums, not singles - particularly not one-song singles. So, in the instances, like this one, where we've covered single song releases, we've had to make some adaptations for formatting. In the case of this one, just imagine both track review and overall review reading as one set of copy. )
