Nick de la Hoyde

Animals (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

One thing that I really can't stand about most modern pop music is the over-production. They tend synthesize and alter every sound (seemingly just because they can), sucking the very humanity out of it. This song proves that it's not necessary to do that to create a song that should appeal to the masses. It feels a lot like much of the modern pop music, but with the humanity intact.

This review is available in book (paperback and hardcover) in Music Street Journal: 2019  Volume 4. More information and purchase links can be found at: garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-2019.

Track by Track Review
Animals
Rising up with classy electronic modes, this starts to take on R&B textures as the voices join. It drops to a mellower section for the first verse. The cut evolves nicely, getting more energy and oomph as it carries on. It does end abruptly, leading me to think that it's intended to perhaps flow directly into another piece.
