Treasure Gnomes

and Lachi - Messages (digital single)

Review by Gary Hill

This new single lands firmly in the zone of dance music. As such I'm not the target audience by any means. Still, I can (and should always) see beyond my own tastes to describe music on its merits and in its own world. And, this does have merits.

This review is available in book (paperback and hardcover) form in Music Street Journal: 2020  Volume 6. More information and purchase links can be found at: garyhillauthor.com/Music-Street-Journal-2020.

Track by Track Review
Messages
Trippy electronic textures open the piece. The vocals come in over the top of that. They are far too heavily processed for my tastes, but I suppose it works for this song. The tune gets into some energetic dance grooves as it continues. It almost feels like a dance remix more than the original version of a song. It has a good groove and some hooks, but overall is processed to the point of losing track of anything that feels human. Still, for this type of music, it's effective.
