Coldplay

XYX – The Story Behind DVD

Review by Gary Hill

The latest release in the unauthorized series of biographies on Locomotive, this time they turn their attention to Coldplay. As one might guess when that word “unauthorized” is in the title, they aren’t able to use music from the band. In many cases this means that there is some lousy sounds holding the video together. In this instance that’s not the case. The music here is far easier to take than on some of these other releases. I have to say that while I have appreciated Coldplay’s music when I’ve heard it, I never knew much about these guys. This DVD certainly changed that. I walked away with a greater appreciation. This bio also seems more recent than some of the other titles in the series. Granted, I believe it was actually filmed about three years ago, but that’s better than some of these.

The bonuses here are a trivia quiz, discography and some other odds and ends. All in all, this DVD is a good introduction to the story (but not the music) of this modern pop powerhouse. I’m not sure that long time fans will learn much about the group from it, but they’ll probably eat it up nonetheless.
