Marvin Gaye

What's Going On and Greatest Hits Live Two Pack DVD

Review by Gary Hill

A bonus pack featuring two DVD's - how cool is that? Well, for those who don't already own these DVD's in their original release, very cool. What you get here is a documentary on Marvin Gaye's life - and it's a cool film. I certainly learned a lot about the man. Of course, I should mention that really, I only ever had the headlines out of his life before. Still, I think that pretty much anyone would come away with a more complete picture after watching this DVD. Besides the hardcore fans probably already have the documentary as it's been available in a single DVD format for quite some time.

This time around they've also included the concert film Greatest Hits: Live In '76 in this set. Mind you, I've reviewed the solo release of that one before at MSJ, so I won't get into too much detail on it. Let's just say that having these in a dual package is a nice touch. You can watch and learn all about his life and then sit back and enjoy a concert. It's kind of the best of both worlds between the enjoyment of the music and the understanding of its origins.
