Happy Mondays

Call the Cops DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I’ve got to admit it. I’ve heard of this band a lot, but never actually heard them until now. This DVD shows the group in concert and behind the scenes on their first US tour in 1990. They put in a killer performance showing me that there’s a reason these guys were fairly legendary. They have a punk sort of vibe in a catchy 1980’s styled pop music case. It’s a potent combination that made them quite a strong act. I like them a lot really. The video and sound are both good, but not stellar. The main complaint here is that we only get ten songs. And you can play them in sequence without the behind the scenes stuff only by choosing them one by one from the menu. These things along with no bonus features mean that this is quite a good release, but definitely misses the “great” category.
