A History Lesson: Part 1 – Punk Rock in Los Angeles in 1984 DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Featuring The Meat Puppets, Redd Kross, The Minute Men and Twisted Roots, this really is a glimpse inside the world that was the LA punk rock scene of the 1980s. Don’t expect professional quality film here. Dave Travis filmed this when he was a teenager using his father’s video camera. There’s nothing professional about it. Basically he kept all his old video footage and is now digitizing it and releasing it. And, really, isn’t that whole DIY rawness a big part of what punk rock was all about? This includes interviews and live footage. It’s raw, it’s punk and it’s cool. It sure ain’t perfect, but it really shouldn’t be.
