The B-52s

With The Wild Crowd! Live In Athens, GA BluRay

Review by Gary Hill

I’ve always enjoyed the B-52s. From the first time I heard “Rock Lobster” I was hooked. They are billed as the ultimate party band, and I’d have to say that title fits. I’ve yet to see them live but this BluRay went a long way to helping me live that experience. Although, it also made me all the hungrier to get that concert experience for real. This thing is well filmed and looks and sounds great. The band was on fire, but for more details on the specifics of the performance, see my review of the CD version from last issue. I have to say that in some ways I wish they’d play their own instruments. After all, they are capable because they started out playing all the instruments. Of course, hiring session players to handle the instrumentation leaves the band to stand out front and really entertain. So, I think that’s a conceit that we can give them. All in all, this is a fine performance from a fun band captured in great video and audio quality. This is highly recommended to all fans of the B-52s.
