Albert Collins

Live At Rockpalast DVD/CD Set

Review by Gary Hill

I love it when DVDs include CDs of the audio. Here we get the DVD and a double CD set. The show starts with just the Icebreakers, Albert Collins’ backing band, doing a couple songs. Then Collins joins them and the show really gets underway. Watching and listening to Collins perform, there is no question why he has the reputation he does and why he’s sorely missed. The man could sing and play like a dream. He was a born showman, too. This set is over an hour and a half long. The video is good, but perhaps a little on the dark side. The audio is quite solid, too. If you like the blues, you can’t go wrong with Albert Collins. And, if you like Albert Collins, you can’t go wrong with this set.

This review is available in book format (hardcover and paperback) in Music Street Journal: 2016  Volume 2 at lulu.com/strangesound.
