The Tubes

Live At German Television: The Musikladen Concert 1981 DVD

Review by Gary Hill

Since this concert was done for TV, the sound and video are not bad. Mind you, it's not up to modern standards. While the Tubes had a commercial hit with "She's a Beauty," this was before that. They were artsy, humorous and weird. In so many ways the sound here seems to have element of lounge lizard, DEVO, Todd Rundgren, jazz and more. There are little bits of an announcer at a desk talking interspersed. She's speaking in German. This live show does get pretty sexual, and is not recommended for all audiences. This is definitely a lot of performance art in this.
