This is quite an interesting documentary. I think the fact that I recently reviewed Free To Rock helped me to appreciate this film even more. That other movie centered on the role rock music played in helping to open up the Soviet Union. It talked about the struggles musicians looking to create their art behind the iron curtain had. The thing is, this film is almost a fitting successor to that one. It highlights the fact that the fight is not finished.

In 2011 members of the group Pussy Riot were jailed for their art. After their release the next year, this documentary was created. It demonstrates (among other things) why it is so important for acts like this be out there challenging the system in Russia. It works so well as a companion piece to that other movie that I recommend watching one and then the other. A lot of people talk about the sacrifices artists make for their art. At its core, that's really what this is about. It also gives a looking into these artists, their music and the entire Russian culture. This is highly recommended.
