Dickey Betts & Great Southern
Live at Rockpalast 1978 and 2008 2 DVD/3 CD Set
Review by Gary Hill
There was another version of this released previously, at least to some degree as "30 Years Of Southern Rock." The way that release was done was a double DVD set with the two shows. There was also an double audio CD, laid out the same way with one CD showcasing the 1978 show and the other the 2008 show. Here we get all of that in one nice clamshell box. Making this an even better release, this is actually a three-CD set. The original release left some songs off. This set fixes that by devoting a CD and a half to each show.
Here is what I had to say about the DVDs when I reviewed them:
"You just can’t get much better than this. Dickey Betts and company deliver some smoking southern fried blues rock performances and you get not just one, but two full concerts here. The first one is from 1978 and the second is thirty years later. Talk about a career spanning set. If you are a fan of southern rock, or just plain rock in general, this is without question a “must have” release. Get it now!"
Here is the overall review from the original CD set:
"This double disc release is two live performances of Dickey Betts and Great Southern. They are thirty years apart (1978 and 2008, but neither is less vital than the other). The first seems more about the extended jams, but both present a killer live southern rock show. The recording quality and quality of performance of both are great."
When you figure that all of this is included in one set now, and that the CDs now have the full shows, this is even more highly recommended than it was before.
