Circle Jerks

Live At The House Of Blues DVD/CD

Review by Gary Hill

If you aren't familiar with Circle Jerks, you should be - particularly if you are into punk rock. I was introduced to them many years ago by a guy I was in a band with, and we wound up doing "Wild in the Streets" in that band. I suppose if you are reading this you know about the band. If not, and you are into punk, I can't imagine you don't. They are one of the greats and have a direct Black Flag connection via lead singer Keith Morris.

This new DVD with bonus CD is a concert film of a 2004 show. The band were absolutely on fire in this show, and the video and audio are both in-your-face and on-point. I can't imagine a better live concert video of these guys. And, it's a great performance, too.

In terms of bonus features, I guess you can think of the CD as one of those. I always love when they include an audio CD of the show with videos, so that's a great touch to begin with. Beyond that, there is an audio commentary that you can turn on, a photo gallery, bonus footage and more. In terms of quality of the bonus stuff, I think the extra footage will be the one you'll find yourself going back to more often than the rest.

All in all, I think this would be a great introduction to the band if you've never checked them out. It is certainly well worth having in your collection if you are already a fan, too. This is an excellent release that is definitely worthy of such a legendary group.
