Marvin Gaye

Greatest Hits – Live in ‘76 DVD

Review by Gary Hill

What can you really say about Marvin Gaye that hasn’t already been said? The man was a pure legend of music. The thing is, with a voice like he had, he deserved it. As this concert from 1976 (yeah, as you might guess there are some serious fashion disasters to be found here) shows, the man was an incredible showman. His live performances, although he seemed to do just short renditions of all his hits, were stellar. The show flows quickly through a number of magical musical moments. This is a great testament to what a musical powerhouse Gaye was and how much he’s brought to the world of music. I’d highly recommend it to anyone for a slice of what real R & B was in the day.
