Marty Balin

Live At The Boston Esplanade, June 14, 2008 DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I’ve never seen Marty Balin play live. I’ve never seen Jefferson Airplane, either – although I did see Jefferson Starship once. For that reason it’s a real pleasure to check out this DVD. The footage is apparently a bootleg, (or at least so I read, but was later corrected on) but it’s a darned good one, if it is. Balin and company make their way through a big slice of his musical history and even through a couple covers our way. All in all it makes for a cool DVD that I would heartily recommend to any fans of Jefferson Airplane, et al. The video and audio quality might not be perfect, but it’s good enough – especially as strong as the musical performances are.
