Many old school Queensryche fans have not been overly pleased with their recent recordings and have been hoping for a return to the older harder sound. If this concert was any indication, the band is listening. They only performed one song from the Empire disc, and that was the hard-edged title cut. There were only two tracks newer than that, one being Promised Land's "I Am I", another hard rocking cut off an album that doesn't rock very hard. The Ryche opened and closed with cuts from the classic Operation Mindcrime disc. One other Mindcrime song was also played mid set. The band filled out the set with tracks from their older CD's. Geoff Tate's voice was very strong and the band was right on and sounding very powerful. Since they were in an opening slot, the stage show was very minimal. In fact, the only visuals were two large Rhycheian symbols hanging above the stage. The only other complaint this reviewer had, again due to the opening status, was the short length of the set. Let's hope we get to see a headlining tour with this harder edged tone very soon.
