If you come into this expecting a typical rock documentary, you are likely to be disappointed. Yet, in some ways, this is really so much more. As the Clash essentially fell apart in the 1980s, Joe Strummer went to Spain. In a nutshell, this is the story of his (for lack of a better word) exile there. The thing is, the majority of this is told by members of two Spanish rock bands 091 and Radio Futura. It’s a very intriguing story, including all kinds of intriguing memoirs. By the way, the title has a double meaning. First, it refers to a Dodge 3700 GT that Strummer literally lost during the journey. It also, though, refers to something Strummer often said, meaning “a dodge out of a bad spot.” I should mention that much of the video is captioned, as the bands are not English speakers as their first language. The packaging here is worth mentioning, too. Not only do you get the DVD, but also a cassette of an interview Strummer did in 1997 and some other goodies. This is not your typical rock music documentary. In a lot of ways, I like it better than that, really.
