Meat Loaf

Bat Out of Hell The Original Tour DVD

Review by Gary Hill

I highly recommend this for anyone who has ever enjoyed Meat Loaf – and isn’t that just about any of us? Footage of Meat Loaf from the 1970’s is very rare and that makes this thing absolutely essential. It’s a great concert and the performance (while not flawless) is pretty stellar. The sound at times suffers – but that’s the stage sound more than the recording. Of course, since this is a made for TV concert film from the 1970’s, the video and audio are not up the standards we’re used to in the modern age. The thing is, to get such an awesome and theatrical performance makes it all worthwhile despite any technical weakness. There is also a bonus interview with Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman. All in all, I like this set a lot.
