Krissy Matthews

Live At Rockpalast 2019

Review by Gary Hill

Krissy Matthews is largely considered a blues artist, but I'd say that he really transcends that. Yes, the blues is at the core of much of what he does, but he brings a modern vitality along with elements of pop, alternative rock, heavy metal and more to the game, as well. This live performance was recorded for German television, so you know the quality is good. I will say that early there is a fairly long part with interview clips interspersed with music performance bits, and that part doesn't work that well for me. Once you get beyond that, though, the whole thing works better. I'm a big fan of videos that include an audio CD of the performance, so this earns points for that. All in all, this is quite a good release showcasing a uniquely talented artist. I think it would make a great addition to any fan's collection, but would also serve as a fine introduction.
