Out of Print for Nearly a Year, The Disc is Reissued
September 4th, 2012, Rockford, IL – Missile Hay Knee Us, a collection of demos and other previously unreleased music was originally released in 2010, but has been out of print for about a year. In his review of the original release of this album, Greg Olma wrote at Music Street Journal “Gary Hill has compiled a number of tracks from his younger days to release this eclectic CD. The songs range from demo-ish guitar riffing to sci-fi sounding soundtrack music. Some of the tracks are very avant-garde while others have more of a standard song sound. I’ve listened to this a few time and some of it is pretty “out there” but there is a charm to all of the tracks. I would not recommend this CD to everyone but if you are looking for something that is out of the norm, then this album will do the trick.” This was originally released (both the cassette version and the first CD release) under the name “Gary Hill.” Since then Hill has started using the name “G. W. Hill” for all his professional work.
Missile Hay Knee Us is literally a collection of forgotten pieces of music, from tracks recorded for a never finished album to experimental jams and raw demos, it presents a different musical view than Hill’s other discs. Two pieces, “Hell’s Bells” and “Percussive Attack” were recorded as bonus tracks on a compilation disc that’s currently out of print. “September’s Remorse” and “Colour” were both rough demos and are the only two cuts to include vocals. Both “Foolie” and “Quasar Suite” were recorded for an album that never saw release. “Seeker” and “Warped Space” were guitar only tracks recorded as an experimental type jam. Although, “Seeker” was a complete song and one that Hill played in several bands before setting it down in this format.
As a means of giving people more insights into the creation of the music on the set, Hill created a video that can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBZNNx0INCs. The video includes bits of each song along with descriptions about the origin of those songs.
G. W. Hill began playing music at age 15, starting on bass guitar. In addition to performing music, Hill is a published author (The Strange Sound of Cthulhu: Music Inspired by the Writing of H. P. Lovecraft and Strange Realities: The Collected Short Stories of Gary Hill) and a music journalist. G. W. Hill lives in the Rockford, Illinois area and is currently working on a new album (in the very early stages).
