Music Street Journal Publisher Releases First Science Fiction Novel
"Wizard Song" from Gary Hill is Published by Tales of Wonder and Dread
March 31st, 2020 Poplar Grove, IL – "Wizard Song," a science fiction novel, is the latest book from Poplar Grove, Illinois author Gary Hill. It was released on March 31st. The premise is summed up with this description, "When an iconic group of stellar musicians are abducted by an alien force, they find themselves entangled in a cosmic struggle on other worlds against a tyrannical overlord bent upon total domination at any cost - and by any means necessary."
Heath D. Alberts, author of "Last Rights" said this about the book, "Hill weaves a unique tale that focuses upon the vast potentiality of music, the importance of true camaraderie, and the power in gestalt - all while juxtaposing contemporary socio-political overtones that echo those that humanity seems hell-bent upon relearning over and over again."
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic arriving on American soil recently, Hill has decided to release “Wizard Song” early. The book had been planned for an April 23rd (World Book Day) release. There are a number of reasons Hill chose to release book despite the current world climate. First, since he thinks of it as sort of a popcorn-movie, escapist tale, the date was pushed up because the world needs that kind of book in these times. Secondly much of the message of the book centers around people working together to overcome a common enemy; which seems to be a good message for this time in the world.
On a personal note, Hill did not want to delay the book for several reasons. First, it has been in the works since 1975. Hill first wrote it as a comic book when he was 12-years-old. The idea has been burning to get out all this time, and as a response to some health problems in recent years, he decided that he needed to get this book published. Since Hill falls into the risk group for Coronavirus complications, the decision was made to get it out earlier rather than delay.
Gary Hill has been publishing "Music Street Journal" (musicstreetjournal.com) since 1998. In August of 2006, his first book "The Strange Sound of Cthulhu: Music Inspired by the Writings of H.P. Lovecraft" was published. Since then, several other books ("The Concert Photography of Gary Hill," "Strange Realities: Collected Short Stories and More by Gary Hill Expanded and Revised Edition," "Poetry of the Air: A Collection of Love Letters from Musicians to Music" and "The Suite Music World of Gary Hill" and a series of three books "The Dark Starr Files") have been released.
Hill started Tales of Wonder and Dread Publishing to release science fiction and horror books in 2018, but published a collection of those types of stories in 2017, titled "Dark Dreams and Worlds." Under the Tales of Wonder and Dread nameplate, Hill has published more than a dozen books including a series on Rockford Illinois cemeteries ("Rockford's Final Resting Places"), "Spooky Rockford" and "Spooky Rockford Two" and "Spooky Berwyn."
Hill launched Spooky Ventures in 2019, and has been conducting video interviews, Spooky News segments and more for the Spooky Ventures YouTube Channel since then. Since 2018, Hill has published Music Street Journal simultaneously on-line and in book form. He also published all the article archives as a collection of books. In 2019 Hill began a series of books under the Music Street Journal banner focused on the Rockford, Illinois music scene entitled, "Music Street Journal Local: Rockford Area Music Makers."
