Northern Illinois Publisher Releases New Book
Tales of Wonder and Dread Publishing is Based in Poplar Grove
November 6th, 2018, Rockford, IL – A new book from Poplar Grove based Tales of Wonder and Dread Publishing was just released today. Titled "Original Superheroes: Classic Tales of Superhuman Beings," is a collection of mythology tales with some illustrations. It was edited by Gary Hill and is available in both paperback and hardcover at lulu.com/strangesound. The paperback edition will eventually be available at Amazon.com and other sources, but the hardcover will be a Lulu.com exclusive. The publisher is focused on science fiction and horror books.
The official description of the new book says, "Superheroes, once the fodder of a fringe group of fans, have made their way firmly into mainstream culture in the modern world. In truth, stories of superhuman beings doing heroic deeds date back to ancient mythology. This collection gathers together stories from mythology as examples of the ORIGINAL SUPERHEROES and a couple of the villains." It includes stories about King Arthur, Hercules, Thor, Perseus and more.
Tales of Wonder and Dread Publishing have previously released four books. The first three titles were all released on September 4th: Life Blood: A Collection of Vampire Tales, Spooky Rockford: Creepy Tales in the Greater Forest City Area and Strange Realities: Collected Short Stories and More by Gary Hill - Expanded and Revised Edition. "Spirited Classics: A Collection of Timeless Ghost Stories" was published on October 4th.
Spirited Classics: A Collection of Timeless Ghost Stories is described this way, "This is a collection of classic ghost stories from Algernon Blackwood, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, Rudyard Kipling, Edgar Allen Poe, Robert Louis Stevenson and H.G. Wells."
Life Blood: A Collection of Vampire Tales is edited by Gary Hill. This new collection features modern vampire related contributions from Heath D. Alberts, Erynn Crittenden, Gary Hill, Dustin Urness and Dessie R. Voigt along with historical tales that seek to establish the new stories in the rich tradition of vampiric fiction. It even includes some poetry.
Spooky Rockford: Creepy Tales in the Greater Forest City Area, as the title suggests, focuses on tales meant to be at least a little scary and all set in the greater Rockford, Illinois area (stretching as far afield as the Southern Chicago area). It includes non-fiction, fictionalized non-fiction and fiction stories. Including contributions from Heath D. Alberts, Ernie Fuhr, Diane Hill, Gary Hill and Kathi Kresol, This collection also includes lots of photos.
Strange Realities: Collected Short Stories and More by Gary Hill - Expanded and Revised Edition is, as you might gather, a reissue. This new edition of “Strange Realities” includes five newer fiction tales not included in the original collection of short stories. In addition, there are several of Gary Hill’s blog posts and two non-fiction pieces. The new edition is about twice the size of the original version which was released in 2011.
All of the books will be available in paperback at lulu.com/strangesound and Amazon.com and other book retailers. A hardcover edition of each will be available exclusively at lulu.com/strangesound.
